My favourite definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.
This saying is incredibility relatable to so many, especially when it comes to dieting.
How many weeks in a row have you started a new ‘diet’ on Monday with the thought ‘this week will be the week, I will be good’?
For many of us, this answer is ‘too many to count!’
And out of those weeks, how many times did you stop and think wow ‘déjà vu’ – this was exactly where I was last Monday and could recognise the cycle you were in? Likely not many because we get so caught up in the diet mentality and think dieting is the answer so of course on Monday’s I am going to start again!! I don’t know any different!
The next question I have is…how successful has the Monday diet attempts been?
Again, likely not very, especially considering 95% of diets fail after all!
If you are looking to change your weight, flip the focus from restriction and pounding the pavement to actually working with your body. When your body is happy, nourished and ‘balanced’ weight loss will follow. I encourage you to stop focusing on what you can take away from your body and start focusing on what you can give to your body to help it achieve the goals you are seeking to achieve.
Work with your body, not against and in the process, practice self-compassion, celebrate the small achievements and most of all, have fun whilst doing it.
